Dumortierite

Dumortierite is a rare blue fibrous mineral found in metamorphic rocks typically associated with contact metamorphism as well as in pegmatites.  It was first named in France in 1881.  It is often found as inclusions in quartz and is sometimes mistaken for sodalite or lapis lazuli.  It has strong pleochroism, or color change, from red to blue to violet.  As small crystals in quartz, it gives almost an iridescent look.

Dumortierite has the most powerful affect of all the blue stones on the root chakra.  It is provides creative energy and grounds you.  It has strong anti-anxiety of self-soothing properties.
