Prairie Tanzanite (Thulite) Lapidary Slab

Prairie tanzanite is a relatively new and rare variety of the gemstone thulite, a member of the zoisite class of minerals.  Prairie tanzanite was found in the jade fields of Wyoming.  It is mottled pale lavender to pink with green and is in a quartz background.

Thulite is a pink gemstone in the zoisite class of minerals. It is most commonly found in Norway and is named for the mythical Thule, which may be in Norway. The pink is due to magnesium in the mineral. These samples are mottled pink and green.
