Calcite Onyx - Dendritic

This beautiful calcite onyx from Arizona features bands of orange, peach and yellow with small dendritic fern patterns, making tiny desert andscape scenes. Most material that is called “onyx” is really calcite onyx, layers of calcite bands of differing colors. The calcite bands precipitated in extensive layers and the colors are due to different elements that are mixed in with the calcite. Calcite onyx is relatively soft, like most calcite, with a hardness of 3, making it easy to work.
