Copper in Quartz and Epidote from Keweenaw Penninsula Michigan

Copper deposits are common in the igneous and metamorphic rocks of northern Michigan, where magma has intruded into surrounding rocks. The hydrothermal activity between the magma and the surrounding rocks produces alteration to minerals such as the epidote, when it is introduced to rocks that are rich in iron and magnesium (mafic rocks).
