Hickoryite

Hickoryite is banded rhyolite with swirls of light and dark bands. It is found in south-western Utah in the mineral mountains, where volcanic activity was very common about 50 million years ago. This volcanic activity resulted in a lot of volcanic ash – rhyolite – being deposited. Also, the fluids from the magma reacted with the rocks around it and produced many mineral deposits in the area. At topaz mountain the rhyolite has topaz and red beryl. At this location, the pockets in the rhyolite have amethyst and occasionally the very rare bixbyite.

Rhyolite is a porous rock and is thought to absorb negative energy.  It is also useful as a diffuser for essential oils.  Add just or two drops to the stone for all day aroma-therapy.

This rhyolite is relatively soft and will take a soft touch, but polishes to a nice satin finish.
