Labradorite / Larvikite

Labradorite is a popular gemstone with “labradorescence” – a play of colors with dark peacock colors throughout the mineral. Labradorite is one of a series of minerals in the group of minerals called plagioclase, which is a feldspar. Moonstone and sunstone are other popular feldspar minerals.

Labradorite is a mineral that is found in a rock often called black granite or Larvikite, although the scientific name is gabbro. Larvikite is a gemstone made of multiple grains of labradorite. The rock is similar to granite except that it has dark minerals in it.
