Lakota Blue Ice Agate
Lakota Blue Ice Agate is a beautiful translucent blue chalcedony and common opal. This was collected near the Pine Ridge Reservation and Badlands in South Dakota. It occurs as secondary mineralization in the Chadron Formation, where mineralization is common. Other material found in the Chadron Formation includes Fairburn agates, petrified wood and prairie agates. Volcanic ash is common in the Chadron Formation and once it is buried, silica-rich fluids from the volcanic ash percolate upwards into the overlying rocks, where they interact with wood and other material to recrystallize it into chalcedony, petrified wood and opal.
