Moganite Agate

Moganite is a mineral with the same composition as quartz – SiO2 – but a different crystal structure.  It is found primarily in dry locales in jasper and agate.  “Hawaiian Surf Agate” is a moganite agate from Nevada.  It has a pale blue color with white wispy structures in it that look like an ocean scene.  It is very similar to British Columbia Ocean Picture Stone (aka Ocean Wave Stone).  Moganite has a hardness of 6 on Moh’s hardness scale, making it slightly softer than quartz, which has a hardness of 7. It cuts smoothly and makes nice cabs.
